Writers Workshop
- Do you write science fiction, fantasy, or horror?
- Would you like some professional feedback in a one-on-one
setting?
- Have you always been interested in attending a writing workshop,
but they've always been too far away or too expensive?
If you answered yes to any of these questions,
then you're ready to attend the ConQuesT Writer's Workshop. All
entries must include a $25 fee per manuscript, a completed registration
form for each manuscript submitted, and a clean copy of the manuscript
you are submitting. If you wish more than one professional critique
for the same manuscript you must include an additional $20 per
critique requested. Writer's Workshop fees do NOT include a membership
to the convention. (Please register
for the convention here.)
Up to three (3) critiques may be reserved
for the same manuscript. For this fee you will receive: a one-on-one
intensive one hour session with a professional author, editor, or
publisher who will offer suggestions to help YOU make YOUR work
the best it can be.
Manuscript Requirements: There are
two submission categories: short story and novel. Maximum size of
a submission is 10,000 words. If submission in a portion of a novel,
it should include the first three (3) chapters (within the word
restriction), and should include a short outline or synopsis of
the entire book.
All manuscripts must be in proper form: 1-inch margins on all side;
lines must be double-spaced, font 12-point (Times New Roman preferred)
First page must include:
- Author's name and address in upper left corner
- Approximate word count in upper right corner
- Story title and byline (start halfway down page)
- Story starts double-spaced (at least) under byline
- Upper right corner of second page (and all following pages)
must include:
- Story title (shortened, if necessary)
- Author's last name and page number
Example: Heinlein/Troopers/12
And finally: Do not use boldface. You may use either italics or
underlining, but please be consistent. Use a clean ribbon and high-quality
mode in printing. Send in manuscript well before the deadline to
assure yourself a place in the workshop.
Entries for the Writers' Workshop must
be postmarked by MIDNIGHT, April 22, 2012, submitted via
e-mail to programming@conquestkc.org.
